Marvin Jayson Gragg

March 6, 1963 — July 7, 2025

Marvin Jayson Gragg, age 62, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, July 7, 2025. Born March 6, 1963, in Avery County, North Carolina, to Ronald Gragg and Mabel Gragg. He is the youngest of five siblings.

He was many things – a loving husband, proud father, skilled upholsterer, and guitar strummer. He worked hard, was faithful, stubborn, and always ready with a joke.

He made his living as an upholsterer, turning worn-out chairs into something beautiful. His workshop was filled with tools, scraps, and many coffee cups. When the work was done you would find him with a guitar in his hands and a grin on his face. Whether it was worship music or an old classic, he played from the heart (and sometimes off-key, but no one minded).

He believed in God with his whole being and sang with his soul.

Marvin leaves behind his loving wife, Melinda Gragg, his wonderful children, Jessica Chavis, Jennifer Peliccione and Elisabeth Gragg, 6 grandchildren, Nathan Chavis, Matthew Chavis, Mackenzie Pelliccione, Madeline Pelliccione, Monica Starnes, Malachi Ray, and a family of people who love him deeply.

His celebration of his life will be held on July 12th, 2025, at Ambassador Baptist Church. Receiving will be at 3:00pm followed by a service at 4:00pm. Come prepared to laugh, maybe cry, and share his stories.

He may have put his guitar down for the last time here, but knowing him, he’s already playing a new tune in heaven – and probably trying to convince the angels to harmonize.

Evans Funeral Service is honored to serve the family of Marvin Jayson Gragg.
