Mary Jane Edwards Blackwell

Granite Falls, NC- Mrs. Mary Jane Edwards Blackwell, age 89, of Granite Falls, passed away on Thursday, December 09, 2010 at Caldwell Hospice & Palliative Care in Hudson. Born May 12, 1921 in Polk County, Mary was a daughter of the late Martin and Winneford “Winnie” Edwards. She was a founding member of the Cajah’s Mountain Baptist Church. She had worked for many years as a seamstress with the Ellis & Huffman Hosiery. She was an avid gardener who enjoyed working with her flowers, blue berries, and apples. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Lonnie Isam Blackwell, to whom she was married for 50 years; and her second husband, Bill Icard; two brothers, Ray Edwards and Coy Edwards. Surviving are her children, Donald Isam Blackwell, wife Linda, of Columbia, SC, Cornelia Murphy of Lenoir, Louise Walker of Lenoir, Ellen Stoss, husband Bill, of Granite Falls, Susie Minton, husband Jack, of Lenoir, Judie Craven of Lenoir, William “Billy” Blackwell of Granite Falls; two sisters and a brother in law, Edda Gear of Rutherfordton, and Estelle Bryant Young, husband Wayne, of Bakersville, NC; one brother and sister in law, Paul Edwards, wife Ruth, of Marion; her grandchildren, Donna Blackwell, Lee Blackwell, Shelley Walker, Ron Walker, Suzanne Storie, Ronnie Chester, Steve Chester, Crystal Chandler, Kelly Coffey, Michael Coffey and Larry Coffey; a close friend, Dot Watson; she is also survived by 21 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. A graveside service celebrating Mary’s life will take place graveside on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at the Cajah’s Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery at 1:00 PM.
