Mary Jane McKee left this world on January 2, 2026.
She was a true New Yorker, born and raised, then became one of those “Damn Yankees” when she moved to Lenoir to be near family.
Mary Jane was the proud wife of a Navy Submariner. She always made military housing into a true home, and made every single holiday magical. She hated the term house-wife, stating she wasn’t married to the house; she took great pride in being a home maker.
Mary Jane was a force, a feisty woman who loved a good game of 500 Rummy and took great joy in beating her family when watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She laughingly tried to convince everyone that she was 5 ft when in reality she might have been 4’11, if she stood on her tip toes. She claimed that if she ever won the lottery, she was going to buy herself a red Corvette and hire a handsome young man to drive her around. She adored her lilac bushes that were brought from New York, but sadly could not get her hydrangea bushes to grow in her garden here. Mary Jane loved the color blue, insisting that every room in her house be painted a different shade of blue.
Her family gatherings in her dining room were always full of laughter and irreverent banter.
Mary Jane leaves behind her daughter, Kathleen, Kathleen’s husband and Mary Jane’s favorite son-in-law, Red; and her cherished grand kids, Kady and Ethan. She was our family’s greatest cheerleader, and we will miss her dearly.
Evans Funeral Service is honored to serve the family of Mary Jane Teresa McKee.
