Mary Yount

Granite Falls, NC- Mrs. Mary Ellen Childers Yount, age 84, of Granite Falls, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Caldwell Hospice & Palliative Care in Lenoir. Born September 8, 1926 in Caldwell County, Mary was a daughter of the late Frank and Effie Shinn Childers. She was Baptist by faith and was a member of the Temple Hill Baptist Church. Mary was raised in the American Children’s/ Jr. Order home in Lexington, NC. She had retired from Shuford Mills where she worked in Human Resources. She spent a lot of her time volunteering for Hospice and Frye Regional Hospital. She was an avid baker and care giver whose primary enjoyment of life was caring for and doing for others. Mary lived her life with pure faith, kindness, generosity and dignity. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Clyde Yount; a beloved grandson, Mark Deal; two sisters, Louise Baker and Beatrice Whisnant; and two brothers, Melvin Childers and F.C. Childers. Surviving are two daughters and sons in law, Judy and Stephen Deal of Eden, NC, and Joan and Steve Greene of Granite Falls; her grandsons, Danny Greene and his wife, Heather, and Dillon Greene both of Granite Falls; her great grandchildren, Bella Greene and Sone Phonechanh of Granite Falls; a sister, Shirley Laxton of Granite Falls; a brother, Sherman Shinn of Granite Falls. She is also survived by special nieces, nephews, and other relatives. A celebration of Mary’s life will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 12:00PM at the Temple Hill Baptist Church with Reverend Darrell Hatchell officiating. Interment will follow the service at the Lovelady Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Steve Yount, Jerry Yount, Michael Frisk, David Yount, Kenny Shinn, and Scott Ingle. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 AM to 12:00PM prior to the service.
