Matthew Paul Barrier, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 46 on Monday, December 29, 2025. Born in North Carolina on January 14, 1979, Matthew was the cherished son of Terry Barrier and the late Debra Milam.
Matthew's life was a testament to compassion, quiet strength, and unwavering support for those he loved. He spent 25 wonderful years married to Julie Barrier, and together, they created a loving family. He will forever be remembered by his children, Dravon Barrier, together with Brittany Powell, Liam Barrier, and Breana Barrier, with Dallas Hollar, and his adored grandson, Zayn Hollar. His siblings, Zach Barrier, Toby Watson, and Michelle Barrier, along with his father, Terry Barrier, and his in-laws, James and Julie Johnson, will dearly miss him. Matthew's circle of love extended to numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and his loyal dog, Dot and cat, Booger.
Known for his big heart and forgiving nature, Matthew was always there for his family and friends, offering a helping hand to anyone in need. He was a quiet presence with a deep love of nature and the stars. A true "Rock Hound," he delighted in collecting rocks and had a passion for panning for gold. Matthew was also fascinated by the mysteries of astronomy.
In his professional life, Matthew was a dedicated laborer, admired for his work ethic and integrity. Outside work, he spent many joyful hours fishing and tinkering, ever curious about the world around him.
Matthew's gentle spirit and generous heart made him a friend to all and a source of strength to his family. His absence will leave a profound void, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
A visitation to celebrate Matthew's life will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2025, at 4:00 PM in the Chapel of Evans. The Barrier family deeply appreciates all expressions of love and support during this difficult time. Arrangements are being handled by Evans Funeral Service & Crematory, who are honored to serve Matthew's family.
