Michael James Greeley Rice

Granite Falls- Mr. Michael “Dixie Boy” James Greeley Rice, age 60, passed away on Friday, March 18, 2011 at Caldwell Hospice & Palliative Care. He was born in Caldwell County on September 18, 1950 to the late Lewis Eugene and Mary Ross Rice. He was married to Paula Jill Day Rice. In addition to his wife he is survived by his son Michael Lee Rice and wife Beverly of Granite Falls; son, Wesley Rice and wife Toni of Newton; step-daughter, Heather Burgess of Hickory; grandchildren, Tristan and Nigel Hicks, Zachary Rice and Ashton Burgess; sister, Brenda Bumgarner of Rhodhiss; brothers, Ron, Tim and Joe Rice of Granite Falls, and Mark Rice of Newton; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of Mr. Rice’s life will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service at 4:00 with Pastor Lex Wright officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service in the Dudley Shoals Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 4:00 prior to the service.
