Mildred Victoria Gambill

Mildred Barlow Hagaman Gambill, age 95, of Primanti Boulevard, Raleigh, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at her home under the compassionate care of Transitions LifeCare®. She was also surrounded by her daughter, and most immediate love ones during the weeks prior to her passing.

She was born on March 8, 1930, in Caldwell County to the late Gwyn Barlow and Lizzie Laxton Barlow. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ronda G. Hagaman; her second husband, Richard S. Gambill; her sisters, Elizabeth Barlow Hartley and Polly Barlow Lee; and her brothers, A.Y. Barlow and Boyd Barlow, along with their spouses.

Mildred spent much of her life working in retail, including fine ladies’ apparel, lingerie, and furniture. She was known as an exceptional salesperson who took great pride in helping her customers find exactly what they needed. She was also a dedicated member of Lower Creek Baptist Church where she grew up.

Over the 18 years prior to the passing of her late husband, Richard, “Dick” in 2016, they loved to travel and took every trip they could. These trips allowed her to visit Europe for the first time at 84 years old. During that time, she was a member of Metropolitan Church of God in Birmingham, Alabama, then Cornerstone Church in Nashville, Tennessee, and most recently after moving to NC after Dick’s death she became a member of Cross Assemblies in Raleigh, North Carolina, where she remained a devoted and active participant in the online congregation during her declining health.

She is survived by her daughter, Julia Hagaman Watts; her grandsons, Cameron Q. Watts and his wife, Tiffiany, and their children, Ellie (10), Carter (8), and Charlee Juliette (7 months); and Stephen Clay Watts and his wife, Tamara, and their son, Lincoln Clay Watts (2) She is also survived by her nieces, Roberta Blinson and Dina Huff; her nephews, Maurice Hartley and Kenneth Barlow; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.

A private gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service officiated by Kimberly Hanselton consisting of scripture readings, hymns, and prayers at 1:30 p.m. The service will take place at Evans Funeral Service, 1070 Taylorsville Road, Lenoir, North Carolina 28645.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Transitions LifeCare® in Raleigh, North Carolina, in gratitude for the loving and dedicated care provided during her final weeks.
