Mildred Shuford Stronach

Mildred Shuford Stronach passed away in Tustin, California on November 3, 2013 from complications after suffering a stroke October 9th. “Mimi”, the Granddaughter of Able A. Shuford, was born to Elva and James C. Shuford in Hickory, NC, January 7, 1920. She was educated at Queens College and was a business woman as well as a mother and housewife. She partnered with her sister, Elva to take over and expand the “Elva Shuford Shop” a mainstay in Hickory for over 50 years, started by their mother, Elva. It was renowned for its fine ladies apparel. She was preceded in death by two brothers, James Shuford, Archie Shuford and a beloved twin sister, Maude Lloyd. She was married to the late William Barron Stronach, Jr. They had four children, Mimi Eastep of Livinston, Montana, Kitty Petar of Sana Ana, California; the late Anne Cataraha of Santa Ana, California; and Bill Stronach, III of Lenoir. She is also survived by one sister, Elva Schmulling of Hickory; 12 Grandchildren, 23 Great-Grandchildren and 4 Great-Great-Grandchildren. A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, June 13, 2014 at 2:00 at the First Presbyterian Church in Lenoir where she attended for over 50 years and sang in the choir until her move to California in 2004.
