Morris Dwayne Watson

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Morris Dwayne Watson, age 83, who peacefully departed this world on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at College Pines Health & Rehab in Rutherford College, NC. Born in Watauga County on October 28, 1942, Morris was the beloved son of the late Otis Washington Watson, Sr. and Estella Elizabeth Triplett Watson.

Morris was a cherished father, grandfather, and friend, known for his selfless nature and unwavering readiness to lend a helping hand. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, immersing himself in the great outdoors, observing wildlife, fishing, and metal detecting. His passions also included NASCAR and woodworking. Morris possessed a remarkable array of talents, never shying away from new challenges. After retirement, he enjoying mowing and yardwork. His home often resonated with the sounds of gospel music, card games, and the gentle purr of his feline companion, Tabby. His unforgettable sense of humor remains etched in the hearts of those who knew him. Morris always said “He wanted to be a blessing to somebody”.

In addition to his parents, Morris was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Deborah Watson; cherished brother, Richard Watson; sister, Mary Johnson and several dear nephews.

He leaves behind a loving legacy through his daughters, Ginger Coffey and Wendy Watson Curtis and her husband, Rob. He was a proud grandfather to Marc Colvard and his wife, Jaylin, and granddaughter, Jade Curtis with her fiancée, Josh Watson. His enduring companionship with Cheryl Drum, and the valued friendships with James Shepard and Carl Anderson, enriched his life immeasurably. Morris is also survived by his brother Otis Watson, Jr. “Junior”; sisters Margaret Honeycutt and Vern, Peggy Ward and her husband, Allen, and Brenda Cornell and her husband, Robert; sister-in-law Dorothy Watson; alongside numerous adored nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Morris’s remarkable life will be held at the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service next Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 12:00 PM, immediately followed by the burial at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, prior to the service.
