Ray Filmore Curtis

Lenoir, NC- Mr. Ray Filmore Curtis, age 82, of Wilder Street, Lenoir, entered the Gates of Heaven, Friday, January 1, 2016 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Lenoir. Born August 14, 1933 in Caldwell County, he was a son of the late Hardee and Ollie Vertrena Brooks Curtis.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Sunshine Joy Curtis; three brothers, Neil Curtis, Paul Curtis, Hugh Curtis and one sister, Faye Teague.Mr. Curtis was the owner of Curtis Heating and Air Conditioning and Ray’s Music. He was a Gideon for many years and a faithful member of Crestview Baptist Church. Mr. Curtis had served his country proudly in the U.S. Army as a medic.Survivors include his wife, Helen Curtis Curtis of the home; two sons, Danny Curtis and wife Esther of Arkansas and Jeff Curtis and wife Susan of Lenoir; one step-son, Jimmy Benfield of Lenoir; one step-daughter, Tammy Haigler and husband Richard of Lenoir; one sister, Rose Church of Lenoir; seven grandchildren, Aaron Curtis and wife Amanda of Hudson, Sara Curtis of Lenoir, Heather Curtis and companion Bryan Cranmer of Charlotte, Ashley Fairbrother and husband Richard of Pageland, South Carolina, Brandon Curtis of Lenoir, Mitchell Haigler of Lenoir and Leanna Morgan and husband Wesley of El Cajon, California. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, Mariah, Kenyan, Gavin, Kirra, Alivia, Benjamin, Joshua and Lawson.A celebration of Mr. Curtis’ life will be held at 12:30, Monday, January 4, 2016 at Crestview Baptist Church with Pastor Michael Isaacs and Pastor Jerry Woodie officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Park with Military Honors provided by the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00 until 12:30 at Crestview Baptist Church.Pallbearers will be Ray’s friends from the Lenoir and South Caldwell Chapters of Gideons International.
