Roddy Dean Bynum, Sr.

Roddy Dean Bynum, Sr., 62, of Newton, North Carolina, peacefully transitioned on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at UNC Health Caldwell in Lenoir, North Carolina.

Born on March 24, 1964, in Lincoln County, North Carolina, he was the son of the late June Bynum and Mary Neal Johnston Bynum.

In addition to his parents, Roddy was preceded in death by three siblings: Larry Bynum, Paul Bynum, and Mary Alice Johnson.

Roddy attended Tuckers Grove United Methodist Church from an early age and graduated from East Lincoln High School with the Class of 1982. Throughout his working years, he served as a supervisor for Alleghany and later worked for Vermont American and RSI.

Roddy will forever be remembered for his contagious smile, warm heart, and wonderful sense of humor. He loved making people laugh and never missed an opportunity to tell a joke. He enjoyed spending time watching his favorite television shows, NBA and WNBA basketball, professional wrestling, and cheering on his beloved Minnesota Vikings.

Above all else, Roddy treasured his family. His love for his wife, Kimberly, was unmatched, and he loved each of his children with all his heart. His daughter, Cyntorya, held a special place as the apple of his eye. His love, loyalty, and devotion to his family will remain a lasting legacy.

He leaves to cherish his memory:

• His loving wife, Kimberly Denise Bynum, of the home.
• His children, Cyntorya Janelle Bynum of Lincolnton, Jessica Jackson (Chandler) of Claremont, Roddy Dean Bynum, Jr. of Lincolnton, and David Enoch Bynum of South Carolina.
• One cherished granddaughter, Sophie Bynum of Lincolnton.
• His sister, Cordelia "Baby Girl" Bynum of Lincolnton.
• His brothers, Cliff Bynum of Gastonia and Roger Bynum of Iron Station.
• His special nieces, Michelle Bynum, Aaliyah Moore, and Lisa Roseboro of Charlotte, NC.
• His special nephews, Michael Bynum and Christopher Bynum
• A host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

Roddy also leaves behind two lifelong childhood friends, Scottie Nixon and Danny Luckey, whose friendship meant so much throughout his life.

The family extends their sincere appreciation to the compassionate staff of Frye Regional Medical Center, UNC Health Caldwell, and Lenoir Nursing and Rehabilitation for the care shown to Roddy during his illness. A heartfelt thank you is also extended to CC, affectionately known as "his other mom," for her love, kindness, and unwavering support.

Though Roddy's earthly journey has ended, his laughter, love, and the countless memories he created will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
