Ronald Steve Mullis

June 25, 1949 — July 11, 2025

Ronald Steven Mullis, Sr., 76, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2025, in Lenoir, North Carolina, the town where he was born and spent much of his life.

Born on June 25, 1949, in Lenoir, Steve was the son of Pat and Mayhew Mullis. He grew up surrounded by family and community, developing a lifelong love for music as a member of the Lenoir High School marching band. It was during these formative years that he met his high school sweetheart, Carol Tysinger. The two married young and began building a life together before Steve pursued higher education.

He graduated from the University of Chapel Hill in 1971, an achievement that marked the beginning of a distinguished professional journey. Shortly after graduation, Steve began his career with Wachovia Bank. Over the course of 33 years, he rose through the ranks to retire as Vice President of Sales Finance – a testament to his dedication and leadership.

Steve’s life was deeply rooted in family. He and Carol raised two sons, Ronnie and Phillip Mullis, instilling in them the values of integrity and perseverance. After Carol’s passing, Steve found love again with Jennifer Greene, who remained by his side as a devoted wife and companion.

He took great pride in being a grandfather to Mikayla Brooks and Alayna Mullis and cherished the time spent with grandchildren, including great grandchildren Hunter and Anabelle.

Steve was preceded in death by his first wife Carol Tysinger Mullis; his parents, Pat and Mayhew Mullis; his brother Jim Mullis; and his in-laws Ruth and William Tysinger.

A beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Steve leaves behind a legacy of warmth, resilience, and unwavering commitment to those he held dear.
