Sammie Edmisten

Sammie Edmisten Lenoir, NC- Mr. Samuel “Sammie” S. Edmisten, Jr., age 70, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2013 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. Sammy was born in Caldwell County on October 26, 1942 to the late Samuel Sylvester Edmisten, Sr. and Lavada Clark Edmisten. He was married to Teresa Laws Edmisten, of the residence, for more than 47 years. Sammie was the former recipient of the citizenship award of the 1961 graduating class of Happy Valley High School. He later attended Appalachian State University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and did a tour of duty in Vietnam from 1966 to 1968 with the First Marine Division Da Nang. He retired from Broyhill Furniture with 40 years service, having worked 20 years as a maintenance supervisor. Sammie was a member of the John E. Ferguson attachment with the Marine Corps League and served as Toys for Tots chairman. He was a member of a Lower Creek Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Director for 30 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Sam Edmisten, III; daughter, Shari Edmisten Crabtree and husband, Nathan; mother-in-law, Eulene Laws; sisters, Dana Storie and husband, Harvey; Melinda Crisp; Jonnie Laws; Renae Munday and husband, Joe; grandchildren, Ashlin Edmisten Clawson and husband, Matt; Kenzie Edmisten; Clare Crabtree; Teresa “Tess’ Crabtree; Samantha Crabtree; great-grandson, Sam Clawson; and two nephews and one niece. A memorial service will be held at Lower Creek Baptist Church on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 prior to the service. The family would like to express their sincere thanks for the following for their warm acts of kindness during Sammie’s illness: Caldwell EMT’s, Caldwell Memorial Hospital; Catawba Valley Medical Center; Carolina Oncology; Piedmont Cardiology; and Hickory Gastroenterology.
