Lonnie Scott “Scottie” Childress left this earth peacefully April 19, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. The man, the myth, the legend.Men wanted to be him and women wanted to be with him.Scottie was a master of brick masonry and is the reason most of us have homes to live in. Scottie took many trips to “See a man about a dog” and he was a friend to everyone he met.Scottie had an undying love for his children, Ben and Spencer (not necessarily in that order). He had the ability to make us laugh hysterically in his presence. We are all filled with joy and peace to know that heaven is filled with his laughter and stories of fishing, hunting and frog gigging (some of which may be fiction). He was preceded in death by his father, M.B. Childress; a sister, Gay Childress; and two brothers, Donnie Childress and Roger Dale Childress; a nephew, Gary Dale Phillips. Survivors include his children, Ben Childress and Spencer Childress; his mother, Hallie Childress; three sisters, Brenda Saunders, Jane Phillips and Sandra Childress; a brother, Ronnie Childress (wife Trish); a special friend, Eva Whisnant; the mother of his children, Jennifer Greene; his nephews, Mark Saunders, James B. Saunders and Bo Childress; his nieces, Amber Shew, Tonya Bumgarner, Nicole Jones and Autumn DeRoche; he is also survived by many great nieces, nephews and other relatives.
