Lenoir, NC – Mrs. Selma Alice Miller Roberts, age 90, of Lenoir, died Friday, November 5, 2010 at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory. Mrs. Roberts was born in Caldwell County on May 24, 1920 to the late John W. and Alice Miller and was married to the late Hardie “Lefty†Roberts. Mrs. Roberts was a life-long member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lenoir where she sang in the choir up until her 90th birthday. She led an active life, visiting the sick in her community, gardening and caring for her pets, that she considered her grandchildren. Her family remembers her as a humorous woman that did not mind speaking her mind. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Bertie Duncan, Essie Pennell, and Edna Hall; brothers, Harlie and Charlie Miller; and a daughter, Doris Helen Roberts. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Ronnie Pennell of Hickory; nieces, Lynn Miller, Rosemary Miller, Mary Katherine Miller, Diane Mitchell and Patty Clonch, Mary Kromm, Brenda Knight, Cherriee Sigmon, Jean Reynolds, and Pam Ferrell; nephews, Allen Miller, Clarence Miller, Sturgis Miller, Gary Miller, Rick Miller, and Marty Miller, Ted Hall, Jerry Mitchell, and Tom Story. A celebration of Mrs. Roberts’ life will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, November 7, 2010 at St. John Lutheran Church with Dr. Charles Dickson officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
