Lenoir, NC – Mr. Sherrill Spencer Gentry, age 74, of Lenoir, passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Winston-Salem. Born May 11, 1937 in Ashe County, Sherrill was a son of the late T.R. and Alice Parker Gentry. He was Baptist by faith and was a lifelong member of the Setzer’s Creek Baptist Church. Sherrill worked in the furniture business for 50 years and also enjoyed spending time with his pets. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward “Ed†Gentry and Doug Gentry. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Webb Gentry of the Home; three sons and daughters in law, Gregory B. Gentry, wife Cynthia, Sheldon M. Gentry, and Robert M. Gentry, wife Julie, all of Lenoir; two daughters and a son in law, Carolyn C. Hatley of Hudson, and Teresa C. Gryder, husband Doug, of Lenoir; a sister and brother in law, Betty and Francis Crisp of Hudson; he is also survived by seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and numerous other relatives. A celebration of Sherrill’s life will be held on Sunday, April 8, 2012 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service with Reverend Mike Minton and Reverend Wayne White. Interment will follow the service in the Blue Ridge Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Doug Gryder, Justin Gryder, Thomas Faw, Daniel Faw, James Gentry, and Greg Hatley.
