Shirley Ruth Patterson

Shirley Ruth Patterson, age 88, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 22, 2026. Born in Bluefield, West Virginia on December 26, 1937, Shirley was the beloved daughter of the late Holt Walter Patterson and Dessie Barnes Patterson.

A devoted mother, grandmother, and sister, Shirley cherished her family and found great joy in cooking and baking for them. She dedicated over 35 years of hard work and commitment to Bernhardt Furniture as a laborer before enjoying a well-deserved retirement.

Shirley's faith was a cornerstone of her life, reflected in her long-time, active membership at Patterson Grove Baptist Church, where she was loved and respected by all who knew her.

Preceding her in death were her siblings, Holt, Jr., William, Gerald, Clifford, Ervin, Richard, Mary, and Agnes Patterson.

She is survived by her loving children: Terry Patterson and his wife, Goldie; Ervin Patterson; Iris Collins; and Elise Smith. Shirley was also the cherished sister of Sarah Patterson and Loretta Bean. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Danielle Covington, Kimitri Nichols, Erica Collins, Jeffrey Byrd, Dr. Daryle Smith, Jr., Brittany Smith, and Shernita Patterson. Further blessed with 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, Shirley leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members who will forever hold her memory dear.

A celebration of Shirley’s remarkable life will be held on Monday, September 28, 2026, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories from 1:00 PM until the time of service.

Arrangements are under the care of Evans Funeral Service & Crematory, Lenoir, NC. Shirley Patterson’s life was a testament to love, faith, and dedication, and she will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved her.
