Tami Campbell For the past three years Tami Campbell courageously fought late stage ovarian cancer. Tami left us October 7, 2017 surrounded by her beloved sisters, brother, other family and friends who came to town this week to be with her. She received her care from her friends at the McCreary Cancer Center and spent her final 24 hours in Caldwell Memorial Hospital where she worked tirelessly up until just a week ago as a nurse practitioner and hospitalist. She loved working with her "people", they were her tribe and they were able to show her that love to help send her on her way. She was a remarkable example of how you just keep on going despite all of the pains, fears and challenges. Tami worked as a nurse practitioner for 14 years and an RN prior to that at some of the top hospitals in the nation including Parkland Hospital, Charity Hospital and UT Southwestern. She received her MSN -NP degree from the University of Tennessee in 2001 where she was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. Tami was an animal lover, especially her dog Beau, and an outdoor enthusiast. She could be found flying down Happy Valley on her road bike, snow skiing, paddle boarding, swimming or hiking the area trails. She was one of a kind with her clever wit, humor and big heart. We will never forget her, nor will her fur babies, and she will be with us always. Though she died at 59, she lived full throttle during these short years with us. We are comforted that she is now in the loving care of her Mother Tommie. If you wish to honor her memory eat a big piece of pie with some strong coffee.Another option is to donate to any humane society. There will be a celebration of Tami’s life on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the chapel of Evans Funeral Services. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Caldwell Humane Society, Inc. at P.O. Box 1991 Lenoir, NC 28645
