Tina Gilbert-Scheer

January 20, 1958 — February 1, 2021

Lenoir- Tina Gilbert-Scheer, age 63, passed away in her home Monday, February 1, 2021 after a short battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving husband and daughter. Survivors include her husband and best friend for almost 50 years, Grey Scheer, and her adoring daughter, Virginia (Ginny) Grey Scheer, age 23. She was born on January 20, 1958 in Charlotte, NC to Robert James Gilbert (deceased) and Judy Elizabeth Gilbert of Charlotte. She is also survived by her sister Debbie Gray and several special brother and sister in-laws and nieces and nephews. Tina was a loving wife and mother and a good friend to many. She loved to travel, beach trips, collecting shells, dogs and antiquing. She enjoyed flowers and plants, working in the yard and especially enjoyed quarantine time and her recent retirement bringing the front yard to life including a small memorial garden for her father. She and her husband enjoyed renovating old homes together in Roanoke, VA, Waxhaw and Lenoir, NC and Tina loved sharing and enjoying her many passions with Ginny. Tina retired from the Shelter Home of Caldwell County where she served as the housing coordinator and later establishing the Second Bloom Boutique to raise funding for the Shelter Home. She also worked with children at the School for Young Children and the Caldwell County Schools Wraparound program. The family is comforted by the many young people that Tina impacted in some way who have expressed their sorrow of her passing. Tina also was employed by Nations Bank in Charlotte as a mortgage lender before moving to Lenoir and becoming a stay at home mother. She served on the board of the Harper School of Music and helped establish several successful fundraisers for the Harper School and the Shelter Home. A celebration of her life and love will be held later this summer or fall when it is safer to gather for sharing good stories, laughter and several glasses of wine in remembering Tina. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Shelter Home of Caldwell County, or the McCreary Cancer Center, both in Lenoir.
