Lenoir – Vernon “June” Cleo Cantor, Jr., age 78, passed away on January 16, 2022 at his residence. He was born in Caldwell County on March 10, 1943 to the late Vernon Cantor, Sr. and Alma McMillon Cantor. June retired from Bernhardt Furniture after 47 years of service. He loved his family and the simple things in life. His hobbies included farming, especially mowing hay and driving his tractors around his farm and he was very skilled at operating most any kind of heavy equipment.He also liked classic cars and watching the old classics on TV. In addition to his parents, June was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Houck Cantor; his brother, Douglas Cantor; and his sisters, Juanita Smith and Mabel Lane. He is survived by his daughters, Devon Greer of Lenoir; and Debbie Messer and husband, James of Hickory; grandchildren, Taylor Greer and fiancée, Elijah Hedgepeth; Dawton Greer and wife, Megan; Kristen Dunn and husband, James “Jad” of Taylorsville; and Kurt Presnell and his significant other, Emily Clement of Hickory; great-grandchildren, Aubrie and Saylor Greer; and Kayden Presnell; special friend, Joe Thompson; and numerous other family relatives. A celebration of June’s life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at 3:00 PM with Pastor Shannon Harmon officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Elijah Hedgepeth; Jody Greer; Gregory Yount; Dawton Greer; Austin Waldron and Kurt Presnell.
