Vernon 'Jerry' Gerald Uptain

Jerry Uptain North Wilkesboro – Vernon Gerald Uptain, Sr. “Jerry”, age 74, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 11, 2015 at Wilkes Senior Village. He was born in Jefferson, AL on November 3, 1940 to the late Wheeler Lloyd Uptain and Bertie Estelle Watkins. He was married to Danish Bare Uptain for 53 years. Mr. Uptain loved his wife and family and was an active member of Shady Grove Baptist Church, on Highway 268, where he was a Deacon and held several positions over the years. He retired from American Drew Furniture after serving more than 30 years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sons, Wheeler Leslie Uptain and Bruce Alexander Bare, Sr.; brothers, Robert and Lloyd Uptain; and his sister, Patricia Tattersaw. In addition to his wife Danish, he is survived by his children, Sherry Henderson and husband, Allen of Lenoir; Vernon Gerald Uptain “Jr.” and wife, Linda of Roaring River; Joyce Patrick and husband, Dwight of North Wilkesboro; Roy Bare of North Wilkesboro; and Beth Propst of Hickory; sister, Beth Campbell and husband Bobby of Troutman, NC; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren and was anxiously awaiting the arrival of his next one; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of Mr. Uptain’s life will be held at Shady Grove Baptist Church on Sunday, June 14, 2015 at 3:00 PM with Pastor Tom Moore and Pastor Hubert Bullis officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Cecil Bare, Dwight Patrick, Jr., Tyler Propst, Jody Bare, Jeff Campbell and Bobby Uptain.
