Virginia C. Nelson

Lenoir– Mrs. Virginia Colvard Nelson, age 91, passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Lenoir Healthcare. She was born in Watauga County on February 16, 1924 to the late Robert Colvard and Ella Icenhour Colvard. Mrs. Nelson was a member of Free Spirit Baptist Church and had retired from Lenoir Healthcare Center after 20 years of service. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Rastus Nelson; three sons, Ervin Nelson, Vernon Nelson, and Benny Nelson. She is survived by her children, Mary Barnes and husband, David; Judy Summerow and husband, Tracy; Teddy Nelson; Randy Nelson and wife, Rose; three sisters; two brothers; grandson, Alex Nelson and wife, Lisa; 12 remaining grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. A celebration of Mrs. Nelson’s life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Friday, November 27, 2015 at 3:00 PM with Pastor Calvin Hargett officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 prior to the service.
