Wanda Lucille Hurley Pritchard, 96, went to her forever home with her Lord on Thursday, October 1, 2026. She passed away at Amorem in Burke County following a period of declining health.
Wanda will be remembered as a wonderful wife, daughter, Mama, Memaw, sister and aunt. Her faith in the Lord Jesus was the strength of her life.
Wanda was born June 17, 1930 in Lenoir to Lena Margaret Hurley. After graduation from Hudson High School, she married Jack Pritchard in 1948. They were married for 68 years and had by her very words “a wonderful life.” Her pride and joy were her 3 children, 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
She retired from the Caldwell County School System as the cafeteria manager at Baton Elementary School after 20 years of service. A member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church for 60 years, she was active until her health didn’t allow her to go & she moved from the Baton community. She served as a Vacation Bible School worker, a Sunday School teacher and active in the Ladies Mission group.
Wanda loved everyone and had a kind and compassionate heart, caring for extended family in many ways. One of her favorite Bible verses was “Be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” (Ephesians 4:32)
She loved children and was another Mom to many of her children’s friends. She always had their favorite treats on hand, like Oreos, Fudge Pops and whatever her grandchildren wanted.
Wanda is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Pritchard Jr., her mother, Lena M. Hurley, her sister and brother-in-law, Velma and Edd Sigmon.
Her family left who will always remember and cherish her are her children, Robert Pritchard of Charlotte, Susie and Randy McCall of Granite Falls and Jackie and Smithy Moore of Lenoir.;
Her grandchildren, Lauren & Drew Givens of Shelby, Corrie and Christopher Shelton of Lenoir, Daniel and Callie Moore of Morganton and Caroline and Josh Lakey of Granite Falls.; And her 7 great grandchildren who brought her special joy - Abel, Lucy, Alden and Daisy Givens, Jack Moore, Maren Lakey and Luke Shelton.; Also many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.
A graveside service will be held Monday, October 5,2026 at 1:00 pm at Mountain Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family requests any memorials be given to Amorem or to Bethel Colony of Mercy.
Her family would like to thank the staff of Fresenius Kidney Care of Lenoir for taking such good care of our mother for over 5 years. She loved each of you. We are also grateful to the staff of Amorem whose compassionate care helped us in this journey.
Most of all we want to thank the Lord for giving such a blessing to our family. Mama/Memaw was a great influence in our lives and a model of Christ-like compassion and kindness to others.
