Lenoir, NC- Mr. Wilburn Columbus Ford, age 93, of Lenoir, passed away on Friday, September 23, 2016 at Frye Regional Medical Center. Born August 1, 1923 in Avery County, Wilburn was a son of the late Ninevah and Ila Coffey Ford. He was a member of Maple Grove Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served during World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Ollie Elzora Ford; a daughter, Lillie Mae Ford; and two brothers, Douglas Ford and AC Ford. Survivors include nine daughters, Jone Pope (husband John) of Lenoir, Sylvia Redding of California, Martha Wendt of Lenoir, Rebecca Billings of Wilkesboro, Elsie Pope of Winston-Salem, Cynthia Icenhour of Dudley Shoals, Wanda Webb of Myrtle Beach, Samantha Helton of Granite Falls and Kim Ford of Marion; Three sons, Kenneth Coffey of Maple Grove, Wilburn Ford (wife Teresa) of Cary’s Flat and James Ford of Granite Falls; three brothers, Tatum Ford, Junior Ford and David Ford; three sisters, Zelma Rader, Claire Watson and Agnes Shores; he is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and other relatives.Pallbears: Hunter Pope, John Pope Jr., Tyler Ford, Jason Clark, Gary Pope, Larry Ford, Eric Billings, & John Pope Sr. A celebration of Wilburn’s life will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at the Maple Grove Baptist Church at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow the service in the Tolbert Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
