On Saturday night, April 7, William “Bill” Granvil Woods changed his address when he left Hospice in Hudson to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Bill was born on April 9, 1937 in Wilkes County to the late Vaughn and Ollie Sanders Woods.He graduated from Happy Valley High School in 1958, where he played basketball and baseball.He worked at Bernhardt Furniture for many years.He retired from Bernhardt Furniture after 23 years of service.After he retired from Bernhardt, he and his brother started a Grading business.After working for many years in Grading he ventured out in the logging business.He was the founder of Woods Logging.He enjoyed playing baseball, basketball, boating and racing.Bill was a charter member of Green Mountain Baptist Church, which he helped organize and start in his own home.Most of all, he loved to sing gospel songs.Through the years, he has traveled with various quartets and loved every minute with each group.This was his way to share the gospel of his Lord.The most important thing to Bill was his family and the Lord, Jesus Christ.He cherished every minute he spent with his family. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Phyllis Howell Woods; his children, Sandy Woods Anderson (husband Mike) and Danny Woods (wife Cindi); his grandchildren, Logan McElyea (husband Michael), Heather Everhart (husband Robert) and Heidi Barlow; his great grandchildren, Robert Everhart IV, Lexi Laws, Kylie McBride and Caden McLeod; also surviving, his sister, Carolyn Aldridge (husband Leon); two brothers, James Woods (wife Geraldine) and Jackie Woods (wife Debra); he is also survived by numerous other relatives. A celebration of Bill’s life will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Green Mountain Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Parker and Reverend Raymond Spann officiating.Interment will follow in the church cemetery.Serving as pallbearers will be Michael McElyea, Robert Everhart III, David Aldridge, Jamie Woods, Joshua Woods and Chris Howell. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
