GOING BACK IN TIME

Our History

The story of Evans Funeral Service & Crematory begins in 1932, when the building that now houses our funeral home was constructed as the private residence of the Moore family. Built during a time when Lenoir was known as the “Furniture Capital of the World,” the home reflected the craftsmanship and pride of the local timber industry. For decades, it was a place filled with life, as the Moore family welcomed tenants and young families into its upstairs rooms.

After the Moore family passed away, the property and its surrounding acreage remained quiet for many years. Its next chapter began when Chris and Lisa Evans returned to Lisa’s hometown of Lenoir in search of the right place to establish a funeral home rooted in warmth, dignity, and service. Recognizing the potential of the Moore property, they transformed it into Evans Funeral Service, which officially opened in October 2005.

The community’s response was immediate, and by the end of the first year, Evans Funeral Service had already served more than 50 families. Today, Evans Funeral Service & Crematory is honored to assist more than 300 families each year, continuing a legacy of service built on trust, respect, and community connection.
